Kapil Dev's Real Love Story: Former Indian Skipper Proposed To His Ladylove Romi Bhatia In A Mumbai Local Train
Ranveer Singh is all set to bring the Indian cricket team’s iconic win during the 1983 World Cup on the celluloid. The film, which has been titled ’83, also stars his ladylove Deepika Padukone and she will be portraying the role of then-skipper Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia, the first look of which was unveiled yesterday and it impressed one and all. Well, almost everything is known about the fascinating DeepVeer love story and you will be delighted to know that Kapil Dev and Romi Bhatia, too, had a dreamy and super-filmy beginning to their romance.

It was Kapil Dev’s friend Sunil Bhatia who introduced him to Romi Bhatia and, no, they weren’t related. After their first meet, the former skipper invited Romi to catch the India VS West Indies test match in Delhi, in the year 1979. Well, Dev was a legendary player and with Romi present in the audience, he left no chance of impressing her. During that match, Kapil scored his first century after hitting six and making it 94 to 100 while playing with Norbert Phillip.

In his book titled Triumph of the Spirit, Kapil Dev spilt the beans on his filmy proposal to Romi Bhatia, which took place in a local train of Mumbai. Yes, you read that right! And just during the special moment, the train moved around a hoarding along the tracks that had a photo of him advertising a newspaper. He immediately asked Romi to capture the hoarding by saying, “Dear, would you like to take pictures of this beautiful place? We can show the picture to our children in the future”. A blushing Romi was shy at first but she accepted his proposal and the two got married in 1980. Soon after, in the year 1983, Kapil won the Indian World Cup and the rest, as they say, is history.
